ACNE SCARS

WHAT IS ACNE?

Acne is a skin condition caused by malfunctioning oil glands at the root of facial hair follicles. If the follicles are blocked, oil accumulates, forming a pimple that can appear raised and inflamed. Pores overflowing with bacteria may burst, spreading toxic debris deep within the dermis, which results in more severe craters. While acne is most common during the teenage years, studies show that 20-40% of adult males may also suffer from the burden. Females can still have issues as an adult, as well. Hormonal changes can be the main cause of the disorder, but other factors including stress, diet, and a lack of sleep may also play a role. It is often a combination of multiple factors.

WHAT CAUSES ACNE SCARS?

In an effort to compensate and repair skin damage, the body produces excess collagen, which forms a scar. While not dangerous, acne scars may have a profound effect on self-esteem and quality of life, even years after the pimples themselves have vanished. Most scars that are most concerning are the ones found on the face. Scars vary in depth, width, and color, thus requiring an individualized treatment plan for each patient’s needs. Very often, it can take several treatment methods to obtain the best results.

WHAT CAN BE DONE FOR ACNE SCARS?

Your first step is your skincare consultation. Here, one of our skincare professionals will review your health and skin evaluations. This is an excellent time to voice any concerns and what you are hoping to gain from your treatment. This may be a single approach or may include several different treatments at once. Factors that determine the best plan for scar fading are the depth of the pocks, skin tone, skin texture, and skin color. Call Aesthetic–Facial and Body Rejuvenation and get started on the journey to the best you that you can be.

Common methods of reducing acne scars are chemical peels, microdermabrasion, laser skin resurfacing, dermal fillers, and solid smooth threads.

IPL (INTENSE PULSED LIGHT)

Similar to laser therapy, but gentler and more versatile, IPL photo facial can resolve many skin blemishes without discomfort or downtime. The procedure works by applying broad-spectrum light, in short pulses. Various filters and other adjustments are used to customize the intensity and wavelengths of light, according to your specific needs. IPL can effectively target skin pigment, improving brown spots, uneven coloring, and more. It is also exceptional for the treatment of vascular lesions, such as red marks and general facial redness. CHEMICAL PEEL

Extremely versatile and predictable, chemical peeling may be used to improve, rosacea, hyper-pigmentation, and many other types of skin blemishes. A moderate to deep peel can achieve rapid resurfacing without laser treatment, while mild peels can gently rejuvenate skin with no downtime. The depth of the peel is determined by the potency of active ingredients as well as the length of time it remains on the skin. Chemical peels generally contain some type of acid, which stimulates rapid cellular turnover. They also include therapeutic ingredients, designed to target various skin conditions. Some peels are specifically formulated to improve the complexion and fight pigmentation problems. Click here to learn more about Chemical Peels.

LED THERAPY

LED lamps target melanocytes, melanin-producing cells located in the bottom layer of the skin’s epidermis. They inhibit the production of excess melanin, prevent it from traveling to the skin’s surface, and break up melanin clusters to lessen existing discoloration. As a result, dark spots on your skin slightly fade away and your skin will get a more even skin tone. Click here to learn more about LED Therapy.
